Marikina City Local Candidates and Mock Elections 2013

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has released the lists of Marikina City local candidates for the coming 2013 local elections.

The Marikina local elections will be held in the City of Marikina on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. Registered voters will elect for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the two congressmen, and the councilors, six in each of the city’s two legislative districts.

Incumbent congressman Marcy Teodoro under the ruling of Liberal Party (LP) is running for reelection unopposed for the First District of Marikina City. Incumbent congressman Miro Quimbo (Liberal Party) will be challenged by independent candidate Albert Bacobo for congressional seat for the Second District of the city.

Two independent candidates, Felipe Evangelista and Rizal Tenorio, have filed to run against Mayor Del R. De Guzman (LP) in the upcoming elections. Incumbent vice-mayor Jose Fabian Cadiz will be challenged by independent candidate Marion Andres.

The City of Marikina is one of the 17 cities that make up Metro Manila, one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world. The city is divided into two legislative districts and is composed of 16 barangays. It is located along the eastern border of Metro Manila, it is bordered on the west by Quezon City, to the south by Pasig City and Cainta, Rizal, to the east by Antipolo City, the capital of Rizal Province, and to the north by San Mateo also in Rizal Province.

Tourist attractions and destinations in Marikina City include Marikina River Park, Tuazon Entertainment Zone, Amscor Shooting Range, Riverbanks Center, Shoe Museum, Biggest Shoe in the World, The Chinese Pagoda, and The Cows in the Dairy Farm.
