The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has released the lists of Navotas City local candidates for the coming 2013 local elections.

Local elections will be held in Navotas City on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. The voters will elect for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, congressman (or district representative), and the councilors, six in each of the city’s two legislative districts.

John Rey Tiangco is the incumbent mayor of Navotas City. He is under Partido Navoteño, the ruling local party, which will contest this election at the banner of the United Nationalist Alliance. Tiangco will be contested by the current vice-mayor Patrick Joseph Alfonso “PJ” Javier. Javier is under the ruling of Liberal Party (LP).

For vice-mayoral race, Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition is supporting candidate Elsa Bautista-Teodoro. Clint Geronimo will run under Partido Navoteño, the ruling local party, which will contest this election at the banner of the United Nationalist Alliance.

For congressional seat, Toby Tiangco is the incumbent. He is under Partido Navoteño, the ruling local party. He is also UNA’s national secretary-general. He will be challenged by Rico “Icoy” De Guzman who is under the ruling of Liberal Party.

The City of Navotas is a 1st class city in Metro Manila. The city occupies a narrow strip of land along the eastern shores of Manila Bay. Navotas is directly north of Manila, west of Malabon City, and south of Obando, Bulacan.

Dubbed as the “Fishing Capital of the Philippines”, Navotas is part of the informal subregion of Metro Manila called CAMANAVA.

Navotas City is known for its fish port, a very important fishing community with 70% of its population deriving their livelihood directly or indirectly from fishing and its related industries like fish trading, fish net mending, and fish producing having marginal percentage of inter-Island fish producers.

Other tourist attractions in Navotas include Dry-Docking Facilities, and the San Jose de Navotas Parish Church.
