San Juan City Local Candidates and Mock Elections 2013

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has released the official lists of San Juan City local candidates for the coming 2013 local elections.

Local elections will be held in the City of San Juan on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. The voters will elect for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, congressman (or district representative), and the councilors, six in each of the city’s two legislative districts.

Guia G. Gomez, mother of former President Joseph Estrada son’s Jose Victor “JV” Ejercito is seeking re-election as mayor under the United Nationalist Alliance. Her running mate is incumbent Vice-Mayor Francisco Javier M. Zamora, who is running unopposed. Gomez will be contested by Kapatiran Party candidate Glenn Angeles and independent candidate Eduardo San Pascual.

For congressional seat, it’s a race between Jana Ejercito (NPC) and Ronny Zamora of Partido Magdiwang.

San Juan is one of the cities that comprises the National Capital Region of the Philippines. It is the smallest city in the region and the country in terms of land area. San Juan is also known for the first battle of the Katipunan, the Filipino revolutionary organization, against the Spanish colonizers.

San Juan City is bordered by Quezon City on the north and east, Mandaluyong City on the south, and the City of Manila on the west.

The City of San Juan is known for its Greenhills Shopping Center (Greenhills Tiangge), the home of the foremost, biggest yet unequalled flea market in the Philippines, where shoppers experience the exciting bargain buys almost the whole year through.

Other tourist attractions in San Juan City are Club Filipino, Monuments of Andres Bonifacio & Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Pinaglabanan Shrine, Spirit of 1896 Monument, and St. John the Baptist Church.
