Comelec disqualifies Black and White Movement party-list

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Wednesday announced the disqualification of “Black and White Movement,” a party-list group reportedly associated with President Benigno S. Aquino III, to run in 2013 midterm polls party-list race.

Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said they disqualified the Black and White Movement since it does not represent and seek to uplift the marginalized sector.

According to GMA News on an interview with Commissioner Lucenito Tagle on Thursday, November 22, Commissioner Tagle said Black and White is more of a political party than a party-list group.

Five commissioners voted to maintain the Comelec First Division decision disqualifying Black and White: Commissioners Tagle, Elias Yusoph, Armando Velasco, Rene Sarmiento, and Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr., GMA News added.

Two commissioners namely Christian Robert Lim and Grace Padaca were among those who abstained from the voting.
