Muntinlupa City Local Candidates and Mock Elections 2013

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has released the lists of Muntinlupa City local candidates for the coming 2013 local elections.

The Muntinlupa local elections will be held in the City of Muntinlupa on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. Registered voters will elect for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, one congressman, and the councilors, six in each of the city’s two legislative districts.

There are five (5) qualified candidates for congressman for the May 13, 2013 Muntinlupa City local elections. Incumbent Congressman Rodolfo Biazon of Liberal Party is one of them. He is opposed by Emerson Espeleta from the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition (NPC) political party, Harry Tambuatco of Alliance for the Common Good (Kapatiran Party), and 2 independent candidates Rafael Burgos, and Jhun Carlos.

Incumbent Mayor Aldrin L. San Pedro of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) is challenged Liberal Party (LP) member Jaime Fresnedi while the vice-mayoral race is between incumbent vice-mayor Artemio A. Simundac (UNA) and Gigi So (LP).

The City of Muntinlupa is the southernmost city in Metro Manila. It is bordered on the north by Taguig City; to the northwest by Parañaque City; by Las Piñas City to the west; to the southwest by the city of Bacoor; by the municipality of San Pedro, Laguna; and by Laguna de Bay to the east, the largest lake in the country.

Muntinlupa City is known for its New Bilibid Prison (National Bureau of Prison Reservation), the main insular penitentiary designed to house the country’s most dangerous criminals. The penitentiary had an initial land area of 551 hectares.

Other notable tourist attractions in Muntinlupa City are Filinvest Corporate City, Jamboree Lake, Japanese Shrine, Memorial Hill, and Liwasan ng mga Bayani, the once used as a camp by members of the KKK (a revolutionary society) during the revolutionary period.
